Rules and regulations
Iasi International Film Festival (IIFF) is organized by the Romanian Independent Film Association. It aims to become one of the largest film festivals in Eastern Europe.
IIFF’s main objective is to promote the cinematic arts, through the attention given especially to auteur and independent films, reflecting their originality and freedom of expression as well as to various forms of cinematic language.
IIFF is an annual event. The second edition will take place between 6-10 October 2010, in Iasi, Romania.
Official Competition
This section will put forward a various selection of films representative for the current international cinematic movement. The official competition has four sections – feature-length fiction, short fiction, documentary and animation.
IIFF will be comprised of the following sections:
Feature-Length Fiction Competition
This is opened to film makers who are at the beginning of their careers. This competition will focus it’s attention on the new wave of domestic and international cinema.
The length of the film should surpass 60 minutes and it should be produced no more than two years before the opening day of the festival.
Short Film Competition
It addresses itself to any film genre, no more than 30 minutes in length and it should be produced no more than two years before the opening day of the festival.
Animation Competition
Films should be produced no more than two years before the opening day of the festival.
Documentary Competition
Films should be produced no more than two years before the opening day of the festival.
ALT-fel
Experimental and amateur film competition. The winner will be decided by the public and awarded the CINEFAN prize.
PRE-FATA
Non-competitive section which will include award winning films from other festivals, previews and recent successful films, not necessarily award winning ones.
RETRO-SPECTIVE
Screenings of various films made by a representative film-maker.
MADE IN
Focuses on films made in Romania throught the years as well as a selection of movies made in a chosen invited country.
YOUNG TALENTS
A selection of young directors before their feature debut. Shorts awarded in others Festivals around the world.
Movies chosen to take part in the competition should meet the following requirements:
Films should be produced no more than two years before the opening day of the festival.
Footage should be on 35 mm film as well as on DigiBeta, Betacam SP, Blu-ray (eith the exception of short, animation and documentary sections where the films may be on Betacam SP, DV Cam and DVD, Blu-ray.
All feature length films will be screened in their original version with English and Romanian subtitles. It is mandatory that all films have English subtitles.
Films shot on a digital format as those participating in the ALT-fel section will be screened from DVDs.
There are no restrictions regarding the genre.
Three international juries formed by well established figures in the international film business, will give out the following awards to movies participating in the competitive sections:
IIFF TROPHY - will be awarded to the best film in the competition.
THE BEST DIRECTING AWARD
THE BEST SHORT FILM AWARD
THE BEST DOCUMENTARY AWARD
THE BEST ANIMATION AWARD
PUBLIC AWARD – CINEFAN, best movie in the ALT-fel section (decided by vote)
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD – given to a film personality, Romanian or foreign.
In order to participate at the IIFF’s 2nd edition, you have to meet the following requirements:
The film along with a list of dialogue (in English) should be mailed at the following address: OP 15 – CP 143 Bucharest, 053120 Romania. The deadline for sending the selected films (in original) is September 20, 2010.
Press material for each selected film (20 press books, 5 still frames and 10 posters) should arrive at the before mentioned address no later than September 20, 2010.
Pre-selection rules and reguletions:
Completed entry form along with a DVD, a photograph of the director, movie stills, author’s biography and filmography, dialogue list in English and a synopsis, will be sent at festival headquarters no later than August 25th (for films participating in the competitive sections). All materials of the films which will not be selected, will not be sent back unless the sender supports all shipping costs in advance.

The selection committee will inform all those who applied about the results of the pre-selection no later than September 10, 2010.
The shipping costs (return of the print) will be supported by the festival.
The festival’s insurance policy covers arson, theft, deterioration or destruction of the film for the duration of the event.
The festival committee will decide the order and screening times of the films.
All directors who have films participating in the competition will be invited to take part at the festivities for their entire duration. All costs regarding transport, room and board will be supported by the participants.
Participation in the festival automatically implies unconditionally respecting all articles encompassing the rules and regulations.
